Troyer's Sparrow-resistant Bluebird House (#SRBH)

Why the SRBH is sparrow-resistant: The slotted entrance lets in sunlight, sparrows want dark cavities, not bright ones. Male sparrows can not block entrance and trap the female Bluebird during incubation. Also the nest tray takes cubic inches away from the cavity which also discourages sparrows.

A: Yes, use the wooden nest tray. It is designed to be removable for nest changes.

Q: Greetings! I would like to know what is it about your "Sparrow-Resistant Bluebird Houses" that makes them sparrow-resistant?

A: House sparrows like large dark compartments that they stuff full of grass. The sparrow-resistant bluebird house has a nice slotted opening (instead of a round hole) that allows light to enter the cavity. Second there is a nest tray included with the house that takes up space, thus making the cavity's depth smaller. For what ever reason it works, at least for me. Hopefully others will chime in. Diane

A: I starling could enter, but the box is much too small for them so they wont be interested.

Q: I bought this bluebird house and realize I should have also purchased the pole. I am putting this in the ground in a clearing in front of a woods. I'm new at this so not sure if I just need the post or if I also need the pole guard. Can you help?

Q: How does this attach to the pole

A: Each house includes a hanging bolt. Also included is the u-shaped bracket that fits around our blue bird post. To see what I mean click or copy and paste the link to the SRBH Set and scroll thru the photos (its the last one), there is photo that shows the backside of the house mounted on OUR aluminum bluebird post.
