Troyer's Cedar S&S Controller
A highly effective repeating trap housing designed to capture European Starlings and House Sparrows near your Purple Martin colony.
Troyer's Cedar S&S Controller is the housing portion of the S&S trapping system. It is designed to attract European Starlings and House Sparrows to a separate nesting-style structure near your Purple Martin colony, where they can be captured before interfering with your martin housing.
The Controller automatically resets after a bird drops through the chute into the holding cage below, allowing additional birds to be captured without resetting the trap after every catch.
Choose With or Without the PVC Chute
- Controller Only: Includes the Cedar S&S Controller housing, Foot & See-Saw unit, and S&S Controller Plan Booklet.
- Controller with PVC Chute: Includes the Controller housing plus the PVC chute used to guide captured birds into the holding cage below.
Automatic Reset Design
- Captures both European Starlings and House Sparrows.
- Automatically resets after a captured bird drops through the chute.
- No bait is required.
- A separate holding cage below allows captured birds to be seen and removed.
- Designed for repeated trapping near an active Purple Martin colony.
Placement
The S&S Controller is most effective when placed near your Purple Martin colony. Positioning the trap close to the housing allows competing European Starlings and House Sparrows to investigate the Controller while Purple Martins occupy and defend the surrounding colony site.

Important Trap Monitoring
The S&S Controller is a live-trapping system and must be checked frequently whenever it is operating. Remove captured birds promptly. Any non-target native bird that may be captured should be released immediately and unharmed.
Frequent monitoring is especially important during warm or cold weather and whenever the trap is actively capturing birds.
