T-14 Predator Guard
Help deter climbing predators from reaching your Purple Martin colony with the T-14 Predator Guard. Designed specifically for T-14 houses, this guard mounts directly to the underside of the house and raises and lowers along with it. Unlike a standard pole-mounted predator guard, the T-14 Predator Guard uses a customizable wooden mounting collar, allowing it to accommodate either the T-14 aluminum pole or a homeowner-built wooden T-14 pole.
Designed to Help Deter Climbing Predators
Predator protection is an important part of managing a Purple Martin colony. The T-14 Predator Guard is designed to help deter climbing predators such as raccoons, cats, squirrels, and snakes from reaching the house. As with any predator guard, it should be considered part of an overall predator-management plan and does not guarantee protection from predators.
Customizable Wooden Mounting Collar
One of the unique features of this predator guard is its two-piece wooden mounting collar. The two wooden halves form a circular mounting plate that attaches to the underside of the T-14 house with the included brackets and hardware.
The center opening is cut by the customer to fit the pole being used. This customizable design allows the guard to work with either the 3” square T-14 aluminum pole or a homeowner-built wooden T-14 pole. Follow the included instructions for the proper opening size and clearance for your particular pole.
White Aluminum Predator Guard
The approximately 16” x 24” white aluminum guard wraps around the wooden mounting collar to create the finished predator guard. Once properly positioned, the aluminum is secured around the collar according to the installation instructions.
Because the guard is attached to the T-14 house rather than permanently mounted to the pole, it travels up and down with the house. This allows you to lower your T-14 for nest checks and routine colony management without having to remove the predator guard first.
Made Specifically for T-14 Houses
This predator guard is designed specifically for use with T-14 Purple Martin houses. The customizable mounting system makes it suitable for T-14 installations using either an aluminum or homeowner-built wooden pole, but it is not intended as a general-purpose predator guard for other Purple Martin housing systems.
Installation and Hardware
Installation requires cutting the center opening in the wooden collar to accommodate your pole and mounting the collar to the underside of the T-14 house. The aluminum guard is then formed around the wooden mounting collar and secured in place.
Mounting hardware is included. Because installation requires measuring, cutting, drilling, and assembling the guard, we recommend following the illustrated T-14 Predator Guard installation instructions carefully.
