Convert-A-Rack Winch Conversion Kit for AAA-16 & Round Rack
Convert your AAA-16 or Round Rack from the original rope-and-pulley lifting system to a winch-operated cable system with the Convert-A-Rack Kit. This conversion kit is designed specifically for these two Purple Martin Products gourd racks because both use a square-tubing style hub that works with the components in this kit.
This kit is only for the AAA-16 and Round Rack sold on this web site. It is not designed for Deluxe, Super Deluxe, or other gourd rack systems, and we do not recommend using it on competitors’ racks.
The base Convert-A-Rack Kit does not include a winch. Customers may use a compatible winch they already own or choose a Brake Winch or Worm Gear Winch from the product-page drop-down menu.
What’s Included:
- 12-inch extension section with pulley slot
- 34 feet of 3/16-inch, 7 x 19 stainless steel cable with thimble
- 3-inch pulley
- 2-inch pulley guide
- Stop pin with hitch pins
- Winch mounting brackets with hardware
- Allen wrench
The 12-inch extension section becomes part of the upper pole assembly and provides the proper pulley location for the new cable system. The conversion replaces the original rope-and-pulley arrangement with a cable-and-winch setup for easier, more controlled raising and lowering of the rack.
When a Brake Winch is used, the system requires a minimum operating load of approximately 50 lbs for the brake to function properly. Be sure the rack has enough gourd weight installed before raising or lowering the system.
A Worm Gear Winch may also be selected as a premium upgrade for customers who want cordless-drill operation and automatic load holding when the drill stops.
IMPORTANT: This conversion should be completed before the martins return for the season or after they have departed. Never perform this conversion while Purple Martins are actively nesting.
When raising the converted rack, stop when the hub reaches the stop pin. Do not continue winching past that point, as doing so can place unnecessary stress on the system.
