Worm Gear Winch – 1,500 lb Capacity
The Worm Gear Winch is our premium winch option for larger Purple Martin gourd rack systems, providing smooth, controlled raising and lowering with the convenience of cordless drill operation. It is especially recommended as an upgrade for the Gemini, where the added control and ease of operation can make raising and lowering a large, fully loaded rack much easier.
Unlike a standard winch, the Worm Gear Winch automatically holds the load in position when the drill stops. There is no freewheel mode and no separate locking lever to engage. This gives the operator excellent control when raising or lowering the rack and helps keep the load securely in place whenever movement stops.
The winch has a 1,500 lb capacity and is well suited for larger gourd rack systems that use a 3-inch square pole. It can be used as a premium upgrade on systems such as the Gemini, K-Series, Super System 24, Super System 36, and Hybrid Multi-House Pole.
When purchasing a compatible gourd rack, you can select the Worm Gear Winch as an upgrade at the time of your rack purchase. Choosing the upgrade with the rack is generally more economical than purchasing the Worm Gear Winch separately later.
A 5/8-inch socket and drill adapter are included so the winch can be operated with a cordless drill.
IMPORTANT: Use a cordless drill only. Do not use an impact driver or impact drill. Using an impact tool can damage the Worm Gear Winch.
For Gemini installations, we recommend adding Winch Extension Handles. Two or more extension handles can be connected together when additional reach is needed. The included drill adapter is then used at the end of the extension handle assembly.
When the Worm Gear Winch is purchased by itself, cable and mounting brackets are sold separately. The same compatible mounting brackets used with our Brake Winch, including brackets supplied with applicable gourd rack systems, can also be used with the Worm Gear Winch.
