Troyer's Super System 36 Unit Gourd Rack with Winch
Quick Glance at the Super System 36 Features
Troyer's Super System 36 is a heavy-duty, top-of-the-line gourd rack designed for Purple Martin landlords who want to house a larger colony on one substantial, easy-to-manage system. As Troyer's largest gourd rack, it provides 36 gourd positions along with the strength, capacity and convenient operation needed for a large Purple Martin colony.
With a 16-foot, 3-inch-square high-tensile aluminum pole, 36 gourd mounting arms, twelve 48-inch aluminum angle arms, and a cable-and-winch system that raises and lowers the hub vertically without turning, the Super System 36 combines strength, capacity and convenient operation in one complete system.
Manufactured in Pennsylvania by Troyer's, the Super System 36 combines heavy-duty construction with thoughtful design for Purple Martin landlords who are ready to offer a larger number of gourds from one complete housing system.
Why Purple Martin Landlords Choose the Super System 36
When you're housing up to 36 gourds, you want more than simply a rack with enough places to hang them. You want a system that is strong, stable, easy to operate and designed to make managing your colony more convenient. The Super System 36 delivers all of those features in a heavy-duty design. The 3-inch-square aluminum pole provides the strength needed for a larger gourd setup, while the unique crossbar-style hub makes nest checking quick and convenient. The 36 solid aluminum gourd mounting arms and twelve 48-inch aluminum angle arms give you plenty of capacity and flexibility for arranging a large colony. The crossbar-style hub and winch system make raising and lowering gourds easier for nest checks and seasonal maintenance. For an established Purple Martin landlord who wants Troyer's largest gourd rack and the capacity to offer up to 36 gourds from one organized system, the Super System 36 is an excellent choice.
The Winch System
One of the standout features of the Super System 36 is its cable-and-winch system. The hub section moves straight up and down without turning as you raise or lower the rack. This makes it easier to bring your gourds down to a comfortable working height for nest checks, maintenance and seasonal management. The standard system includes the D&L 350-pound brake winch and 34 feet of 3/16-inch stainless-steel cable. The cable guide helps keep the cable positioned securely against the pole while operating the rack. The brake winch automatically holds the load when you stop cranking, giving you control while raising or lowering the hub.
For landlords who want even easier operation, the Super System 36 can also be upgraded to a worm gear winch. The optional worm gear winch can be operated with a cordless drill using the supplied 5/8-inch hex socket. A standard electric drill should be used; impact drivers should not be used with this winch.
36-Gourd Capacity
The Super System 36 provides space to house up to 36 Purple Martin gourds on one heavy-duty rack system, making it an excellent choice for landlords managing a large or growing colony. The rack features twelve 48-inch aluminum angle arms, with three gourd mounting positions on each arm. The system includes 36 solid aluminum gourd mounting arms.
The horizontal system includes three different options:
- 12 horizontal 90-degree arms
- 12 straight horizontal arms
- 12 horizontal 45-degree arms
Having three mounting-arm styles gives you flexibility when arranging your gourds around the rack and allows you to create an organized housing system that works well for your colony. With 36 gourd positions on one substantial rack, the Super System 36 provides plenty of housing capacity without requiring multiple separate rack systems.
Built for Easy Nest Checks
One of the things that sets the Super System 36 apart is its crossbar-style hub. This design allows the hub section to be raised and lowered without rotating, making nest checks quicker and easier. When the hub is lowered, your gourds come down to a much more manageable working height. For a landlord managing a larger colony, that convenience can make a big difference throughout the breeding season. Regular nest checks are an important part of successful Purple Martin management, and the Super System 36 is designed with that job in mind.
Choosing Between the Super System 24 and 36
If you are deciding between two Super System racks, the Super System 24 provides housing for up to 24 gourds, while the Super System 36 provides capacity for up to 36 gourds. Both systems feature heavy-duty aluminum construction and a cable-and-winch system designed to make nest checks and seasonal management easier. Looking for a 24-gourd system? Gourd Compatibility
Holds up to 36 gourds. The gourd mounting arms can accommodate Troyer Gourds and many other plastic or natural gourds. Gourds are not included with the rack unless you select one of the available gourd bundles.
Using Troyer Gourds?
That's easy. Troyer gourds come ready to hang with the proper horizontal hanging hole, so there's no need to modify them before installation. If your gourds do not already have the proper front-to-back hanging hole, simply drill a 3/8-inch hole in the neck of the gourd. Some gourds, like the SuperGourd, offer drill guides.
Popular Gourd Choices Include:
- Troyer Vertical Gourd — A deep, roomy gourd with a wide porch and Troyer Tunnel.
- Troyer Horizontal Gourd — A deep, 9-inch body gourd with a wide porch designed specifically for horizontal rack arms.
- SuperGourds — A spacious gourd for landlords who want a larger nesting cavity.
